Week Thirty Three: At A Glance...

Week Thirty Three Glance... (Monday, November 5th - Sunday, November 11th, 2007)

  • Sleeping schedule is a bit off this week - I'm blaming daylight savings
  • Woke up early for most of the week and didn't fall right to sleep, would usually lie in his crib babbling, moving or playing with his pacifier. Typical 'asleep' time this past week was around 8pm
  • Not crawling yet but can get from sitting to his belly without a face plant on the floor
  • Loves to eat in his chair (that's not a high-chair but serves the same person)
  • No teeth yet
  • Is such a great cuddler! There's not a better feeling in the world...
  • He doesn't cover his eyes when drinking his bottle anymore because he holds it. But when he's done he pushes it away, sits up and wants to cuddle on my shoulder.
  • Loves carrots, applesauce, prunes, Apples Blueberries, & Dutch Apples. Not fond of Green Vegetables (we tried that today and he was not liking it at all)
  • He had a good week at school - had a few afternoons of fussiness but overall a nice week
  • Linda said he spent most of Wednesday laughing
  • Still has not duplicated an outfit to school
  • We bought his first pair of hats & mittens and a winter jacket. We have also found out that he is just like Mommy and that he hates winter if that means he has to be bundled up. As soon as I come near him with the jacket, he cries. And it's a different cry, it's a "I really don't like this, please don't make me do it cry"
  • He does a great job of helping take off & put on shirts...I know that sounds crazy, but he will take off his shirts.
  • Still loves bathtime and does mind when water gets on his face
  • Slept from 4p-9pm Saturday afternoon
  • Took two separate 1 & 1/2 hour naps while driving in the car
  • Came to visit mommy @ her hair cut
  • Played in his jumperoo
  • Tried his convertible car seat but it doesn't feel quite right just yet - back to the original one
  • Had a gigglefest with Daddy Sunday while Daddy blew air on him
  • Loves to play with balls however doesn't go ga-ga for playing ball the way Daddy & Uncle Matt do

Is it a full moon?

It's either a full moon or something's in the water because Alexander has had the weirdest sleeping schedule this weekend.

It started yesterday morning where he woke up @ 5a and didn't want to go back to sleep as he usually does. Then when I put him down for his morning nap, he only slept for 18 minutes. He refused to go down for a later morning nap. Since I had a hair cut appt, Dan decided to take him for a drive. Thankfully, he slept for the entire drive (which was an 1 hr & 1/2). They ended their drive with a surprise visit to me at the hair salon. It was very sweet. My hair dresser, Emily, was so excited to meet Alexander since she's seen so many pictures.

Later in the afternoon it was time for his afternoon bottle. We decided to go have it upstairs where it was warm & we could snuggle. He ended up falling asleep, which is okay as he usually has an afternoon nap at school or the equivalent of falling asleep on the car ride home. However, he fell asleep from 4p-9p!!! I was rocking him in the chair, til 5p and decided I'd lay down with him not expecting him to sleep much longer. Well I was wrong. He finally woke up @ 9p to which he got changed, we played a little and then it was time to go to bed again. My expectations were low in the sense that he would either NOT fall asleep or wake up with a uber-early time. However, he kept proving me wrong. He fell back to sleep quite easily and with a small whimper @ 4:30am, he slept until 5:15am.

We brought him in bed with us and he slept until 6:20. Not bad. Today he also didn't care much for naps and didn't take his morning nap at all. Finally, he was getting tired & a wee fussy that I decided to take him out to run some errands. Of course as soon as I got to the entrance of the shopping plaza, he fell asleep. I couldn't take him out of the car & wake him now. Afterall, the poor little guy needed some sleep. So I did what any good mom would do to keep their baby asleep. I drove to Providence, RI. I figured if I drove to Providence & back, that would give him a solid nap. And that's just what happened...I drove down to Providence and back and he slept the entire way. I didn't get my errands done, but what's more important is that he was able to get a good nap in.

And then he went down for bed very quickly & easily. Let's see what time he wakes tomorrow...

Update on the tunnel...

So yesterday I mentioned I was so excited to go to bed when Alexander did. The question is "Did I"?

NOPE! In fact, I went to bed 2 1/2 hours after he did. I ate dinner, I prepped his laundry (it's amazing how many pieces of his clothes come home from school with stains), and then finally decided it was time to go to bed.

And our early riser woke up @ 5a this morning. Does he not realize it's a Saturday?? (He is playing in his pack & play next to me as I type this)

ah well...

Off to have the morning bottle. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Light at the end of the tunnel...

Finally there is some light coming thru the end of the tunnel!!

The tunnel named "Daylight Savings" was really causing havoc in our household. Usually with Daylight Savings in the fall, you gain an extra hour of sleep. Not the case here. Not only did we not gain the hour but we lost 2. It has been throwing Alexander's sleeping off and when his sleeping is off, so is mine. And I don't know if you know this, but I need sleep.

Once Daylight Savings took place, all hell broke loose. Alexander woke up @ 3:30am for Sunday & Monday! THREE THIRTY!! I can't function on that little amount of sleep. And I think people at work would agree. Then on Tuesday, he woke up @ 4am screaming like a banshee. He would only calm down if I sat indian-style on the floor, while holding him, in his room and rocked back & forth. I couldn't lean against his dresser or crib. I had to sit in the middle of the floor. Do you know how hard it is to maintain that position, making sure you stay awake so you don't harm your child?? VERY. I was finally able to get him calmed down @ 5:15am to the point where it was okay if I sat up in my bed so at least I could lean against the headboard and get under blankets.

Wednesday morning he woke up @ 5am so he's getting on track, slowly. I let him stay in his crib talking/babbling to himself until 5:30am. Then when I brought him in with me while Daddy took a shower, he fell back to sleep. See, he needs sleep too!

Both Thursday & Friday he's woken up @ 5:30am so it's a much more agreeable time. Now the other change he's been going through is the fact that when we get ready for bed, he would normally be asleep by the time I put him in his crib. The past week, he will have fallen asleep (complete with snoring and fully relaxed limbs) before he's gotten to his crib. The minute I put him down, he wakes up. WIDE AWAKE. I get him relaxed again but leave him in there. So he'll be in his crib awake anywhere from 10-30 minutes until he falls asleep on his own. Most times he moves around, ALOT, trying to get comfortable. Other times he'll lie there and babble on. And then there are other times where he'll play with his binky - he'll put it in and take it out of his mouth. Then he'll flip the handle back & forth.

I don't know if this is a permanent change where his "fall asleep" time is now 8p instead of 7:30pm. Guess we'll have to keep an eye on this...all I know is that I'm quite happy I can go to bed when he does tonight!

Ahhh sleep.
