Hot Stuff...

Alexander stayed home from school today due to a fever but had no other symptoms. His mood was fine, his eating was decent, and he still napped. But he had a fever for most of the day and because he can't be at school with a fever, he got to spend the day with Mommy.

We rested a bit in the morning, watched Little Einsteins, had some breakfast and then we went out to BJs Wholesale. The whole time at the store he was super helpful, little freaked out by the machine washing the floors but otherwise great.

After a nap, we had some lunch and relaxed some more. His fever was now gone, so we went to Stop & Shop where Alexander was still very helpful and saying 'hi' to anyone who walked by.

So at the time I wasn't sure what the fever was for but now knowing what transpired over the weekend, it does make sense. Hopefully it passes quickly...

Sick Day...

Today, Alexander stayed home from school.

He wasn't really sick but the school rule is that if the child has a fever, they have to be out of school for 24 hours. And Alexander had a fever last night because of his teeth so unfortunately even though he's fine, he couldn't go to school, even though he did not have a fever when he woke up...

Daddy stayed home with Alexander and the two of them had a very busy day! They went for a walk, went to the playground, went to the lake and threw rocks in the water, had naptime, ate lunch, played outside, did some painting, played catch!

By the time Mommy got home, Alexander was running around as if nothing bothered him just 24 hours before...and to finish a Daddy/Alexander filled day, they watched MASH on the couch. (I like how Alexander is imitating Daddy with his legs...)

Gives me Fever...

Monday morning, Alexander woke up and was a bit more subdued than normal. He had a small accident (of the vomit variety) before school but didn't make too much out of it. Dan suggested that it was because he shoved an entire muffin in his mouth.

While driving to school, which would have been his first official day in the Toddler room, he was very quiet & low key. He didn't want to sing "Wheels on the Bus" or look for trucks. He just sat in his chair with his head leaning to the side, while he looked out the window. It was probably the quietest drive in - ever!

I dropped him off and he got very upset but I figured because it was a new room. I get to work and start to go through email. 50 minutes later, Mrs Debbie calls to tell me that Alexander has a fever of 102.2. EEK!!

While he felt hot the night before, he didn't have a temperature, nor did he feel hot in the morning. Well, that fever spiked and spiked quickly. I called Dr. M's office and they said if it's just a fever then go home, let him sleep, give him Motrin and see if he has any other symptoms. I picked him up at school and you could tell the poor kid didn't feel good. He was pale, quiet, and just sat there. We got home and after a small snack (which he wasn't able to finish at school), and then he took a nap. He napped for almost 3 hours! Then after his nap, we watched Elmo, played with flash cards, and he fell asleep on my shoulder as we waited for Daddy to get home.

The highest temp he had at home was 101.5 on Monday night. We gave him Motrin and everything seemed to be fine. Because he only tugged on his ear once (when he woke up at 1:30am and was rocking in the chair), I figured I'd wait til morning to see if he continued and what the temp was before calling the doctor about a possible ear infection.

In the morning, he was back to his old self. Well, almost. He was pretty cranky. But he had no fever nor did he tug on his ears. However, school policy is out of school 24 hour-fever-free, so we stayed home on Tuesday as well. I kept checking his temp throughout the day and never once did it go above 99.1, so thankfully the fever broke without issue.

He did have another good nap Tuesday afternoon, which he needed, because did I mention he was cranky? By the afternoon, Alexander was ready to move on from being sick. Thankfully Daddy came home which was a great change of scenario/people and from that point on, he was just peachy!

He was able to go to school on Wednesday as he was fever-free!
