Monthly Update...

Monthly Update - April 2010

A lot of things are the same from last month in regards to eating, sleeping, favorites, etc. However here are two updates for this Month's Update that is a bit different.

  1. Temper tantrums are in full swing - complete with screaming, yelling, grunting & throwing things! There is no rhyme or reason why they happen and most times they happen with or at Mommy. One night driving home, his tantrum was so bad that he got mad at Mommy for looking at him and proceeded to scream, hit his chair, and then take off his shoe and throw it at me. Needless to say it was not one of his better moments and he spent the rest of the car ride with no music or no talking. He was not a happy camper, however as soon as he got home he was back to being the cute, happy little kid.
Where's my nice, well-behaved little boy? Has anyone seen him?

  2. One of his lower-back molars has broken through...maybe that's what's a causing factor in his recent fevers as well as a contributing factor in point #1

Monthly Update...

36 Months/3 Year *Update*

I can't believe our little guy is already 3 years old! Where did the time go?

We still have a few milestones in progress but besides that he is a healthy & energetic little boy:
-He's still waiting for his back 4 molar teeth to come in (all his teeth came in late)
-We're in the early stages of potty training (he has no desire)

His sleeping patterns haven't changed and he'll always be an early riser. However when naps fully stop, I imagine he'll fall asleep around 8:30pm each night and it might actually be a little easier. I would guesstimate that about 80% of the time, he wakes up during the night and comes to crawl in with Mommy.

Eating is typical in the sense that sometimes he wants nothing to do with food and other times he can't get enough of it. I will comment that he's already eating/trying foods that I still won't eat so I praise his eating habits.

And like most little boys, he loves trains, trucks, running, animals, screaming & playing doctor. His favorite things haven't really changed much as his new thing was the seven dwarfs & the Heigh-ho song and that's still there. He is starting to sing along to songs on his own while driving in the car so that's fun to watch.

And the best part to watch is how he develops, grows & figures things out. When he says "Ohhhh, I seeeeee" after you show him something immediately puts a smile on my face!

Monthly Update...

It's amazing how not much changes from month to month but there are moments where you think "wow, he's really growing up".

He's doing really well at school - he's maturing, he has great manners & he's having a blast. Of course, he has not-so-good days but I'd be surprised if he didn't because after-all, he is almost 3 years old.

Sleeping is the same from previous month where as he will sleep through the night (in his bed/room) some nights, and then others he'll wake up at random times and come in and sleep with Mommy. We start bedtime around 7p, and try to be done by 7:45p and then let him babble til he falls asleep. Sometimes he does well and other times he fights it for quite some time.

Eating - he has his staples (PB&J, nuggets, Mac & Cheese) and then he has his other things he'll try one day and then not want any part of it the next. He is starting to love yogurt drinks and strawberries as a snack so that's a plus that it's not candy. (he doesn't eat candy)

As for favorites, his new favorite is "Heigh Ho" from Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs...Mommy had to put it on her ipod so we could listen to it in the car as he also loves to watch the little video. But all is other favs (Mickey, Sesame Street, Curious George, Chuggington, Little Einsteins & Handy Manny are still there...)

And next monthly update will be his 3 year update! Can you believe it?!

Monthly Update...

We are nearing the 3 year mark - can you believe it?!

This past month, we moved to a big boy bed! And he's done really well, without any major issues. Our main concern was that he would get out to fight bedtime or to play. There has only been one nap time where he got out of his bed a few times but when he realized I wasn't on the other side of the door he went back in his room, closed the door, and went back in bed. He also hasn't done much moving around either.

As for the past month, he's been doing really well in Preschool. One teacher commented that she sees growth & maturity even since changing rooms. His vocabulary is also improving as the weeks go on. There are times he shows laziness with words/letters (F & S) but if you ask him to sound it out, he does it no problems.

He knows his ABCs, count to 20, and even is adding more books to his list of ones he can read to you. I think we're up to 5 books that he can read on his own.

We were in a very long phase of Alexander waking up once a night and coming into sleep with Mommy. (Not to jinx it...) However as of late, he's been making it through the night. Keep those fingers crossed.

He loves Thomas the Train (it's everywhere), trucks (of all kinds), his vacuum/broom, and his doctor kit. As for shows, he loves/will watch: Thomas, Mickey Mouse, Little Einstein, Curious George, Sesame Street, Handy Manny, Imagination Movers, Tigger & Pooh, & a new Disney show called Chuggington.

Eating is interesting. Sometimes he will only eat the same things over & over. Other times he'll be adventurous and try new foods. Lately he's tried & liked: peppers, cucumbers, celery, bagels with cream cheese. Some times he'll like a food and then we'll give it again and he wants no part of it...try, try again!

Montly Report...

As for the Monthly Report...nothing really has changed in regards to sleeping, eating, etc.

The thing that has changed has been his vocabulary as well as his manners. He's improved so much with his vocabulary in the sense of speaking as well as reading. We have a couple books that he will actually read rather than have me read to him. It is quite cute as well as entertaining watching him read a book, and then getting excited when he sees how proud I am.

The next big phase is that he'll be moving into Preschool room in January. He's quickly becoming a big boy. And the best part is that he's actually starting to understand the concept of being a big boy!

Monthly Recap...

After looking at the Monthly Recap from last month, it looks pretty identical as to what's been going on. Sleeping is still the same where he's waking up once a night and then sleeping me. It's obvious he's getting his "2-year" molars right now.

The only differences would be his manners are improving greatly. He definitely had some up & down days while at school but the last couple of weeks have been good ones.

He also has started to say "WHY" to everything, he laughs when I speak Spanish & loves to say Santa says 'ho ho ho'

Here is last months to refresh you:
The only main thing to comment in this monthly update is that Alexander is getting the remainder of his teeth in & it's been impacting his sleeping.

For the past 2 1/2 weeks, he's been waking up every night crying & ultimately sleeping with me (using me as a pillow). I've tried a few nights to let him cry it out, or go in and rub his back, rock in the chair, but it ultimately ends in a crying fit so rather than none of us sleeping, I bring him in our bed.

Also, at school he has his moments where he's more whiny or territorial than usual. Miss Lori & I talked and think it definitely could be affected by his sleeping schedule (or lack their of) but it could also be normal for a 2 1/2 year old.

The other thing to note is that he's been good at trying new food. He won't necessarily try something new all the time but he is better. In fact, last weekend he tried pepperoni & items from an antipasto salad and enjoyed it!

Clothes: He's pretty much in 24 months/2T now for everything although there are some things he can wear that is 18-24 months.

Likes: Elmo, Trains, trucks, Thomas the Tank Engine, Little Einsteins, dancing, arts & crafts
Dislikes: dogs
Favorite phrase: "here he comes" - this gets him very excited/giddy

Month Recap...

The latest Monthly update is pretty consistent that things are pretty status quo...since the last update we have had some items to note:

  • Two trips to the ER
  • Started a new classroom
  • Vocabulary is improving every day
  • Getting better with counting, colors, shapes & numbers
His eating, sleeping schedules have remained the same without any variation but we are trying to sneak different things in. Some days he'll be adventurous & try things (pepper, baby tomato) and other days not so much...

His vocabulary & how he's saying his words is getting much clearer. And he's starting to listen when I tell him not to cry or freak out when he can't figure something out (for example moving the seat belt over the carseat & then his foot gets stuck)...

His favorite thing to watch on tv (which we don't let him watch a whole lot) is Little Einsteins, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Curious George & Elmo. He also loves to watch golf. He was recently asked if he was going to play football when he got older and he said "no golf" so he told us!

We also now have three rules that he'll repeat them. He usually is asked to repeat them when he's starting to break one of the three rules.
Rule 1: No whining
Rule 2: No screaming
Rule 3: No hitting

Monthly Update...

The latest Montly update is pretty consistent with the last one...not a whole lot has changed.

His eating, sleeping schedules have remained the same without any variation. Although I have done my share to get some veggies in...some nights it works better than others. I have been successful to pack carrots for lunch and he's eaten some.

His vocabulary & how he's saying his words is getting much clearer. His counting (in order) is improving and he's learning to say his alphabet on his own. One of the best things is when we read books at night, he'll finish the sentences for me and he gets it right almost every time.

He loves playing outside, paint, going to swim class (jumping in the water), playing at the playground & going for walks.

His favorite thing to watch on tv (which we don't let him watch a whole lot) is Little Einsteins, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Curious George & Elmo. He also loves to watch golf.

Monthly Update...

Since I decided I would still do a monthly update, but maybe not as specific, here goes...

This past month was pretty same ole same ole with the one exception that Alexander had to go to the ER because of a fall at school, got several sets of x-rays, and ended up getting a cast on his arm even though he has no broken bones.

Despite that, things have been well. He's vocabulary is improving where he's actually starting to form phrases. He does very well with the alphabet (when he wants) as well as counting. He counts from 1, 2, 6-15 all by himself!

I also bought him a book of 100 words (food, musical instruments, animals, colors, etc) and he's getting really good at telling me what the majority of the things in the book are. He also loves to finger paint. He'll tell you the color paper and then what color paint to use - he's quite the artist!

Clothing, feeding, sleeping are still the same as before. One other thing that may become a future topic is that I'm noticing he's starting to want to climb. The past two weeks, he's tried to climb back IN to his crib to get a stuffed animal or something. I'm hoping this doesn't turn into a "Alexander climbed out of his crib" topic!

Monthly Update...

So because Alexander has hit his 2 year mark, I am trying to decide if I'm going to do the Monthly Growth update anymore. I may post on the 22nd but it doesn't have enough changes that they have in the past. There's not the need for a milestone marker like there used to be.

But until I decide what I'm going to do, I'll do an abridged version...

Development:
-10 teeth
-Words are coming along, as our 2 word phrases
-Practicing counting to 10 and ABCs - loves the letter O
-Loves sports, specifically golf & baseball
-Loves to be outside
-Getting much better distinguishing & saying the colors
-Has personal space issues at school (which is odd since he likes to cuddle & wrestle at home)

Clothes:
-18-24 Months for most stuff however if it's just 18 Months than some brands are too small

Sleeping:
-8pm(ish) - 5:30am(ish) with a 2 hr nap

Feeding:
-Same stuff but depending on his mood, he'll try new foods
