Week Glance...

Week Glance (Monday, August 4th - Sunday, August 10th, 2008)

  • Long, yet busy week
  • Most nights he went down to bed quickly
  • Had one of our worst nights sleeping in quite some time - combination of teething & congested can do a number on a little one
  • Wednesday night, previously mentioned, was long & tiring, he would fall asleep and then wake up screaming. The only thing that seemed to work was sitting on his floor, rocking him...made for a long night for Mommy
  • Because he didn't feel that great this week, he wasn't in the best moods at school either
  • Went to the National Safety Night Out across the street from us...sadly, no McCruff the crime dog, but there was a real crime dog and Alexander got a whole hot dog to himself
  • Didn't nap or eat well at school and even Motrin didn't always help
  • Mommy had to pick him up early on Wednesday
  • Friday night he refused to even get into the bathtub even though he seemed pretty excited about the thought of taking a bath
  • Went for his weekend walk on Saturday with Daddy to Dunkin' Donuts, the gazebo & the playground
  • Saturday, we went to Uncle Steve & Carolyn's house for Will's birthday party
  • We got to visit with cousin Michael who we haven't seen since Christmas (they'll be moving up here so it'll be nice to Alexander to have a cousin close in age living around)
  • Got his first ice cream from the ice cream truck and wanted NO PART of it
  • Was all excited to go into the pool at Uncle Steve's but once up there and actually faced with the pool wanted no part of it, not even to dangle his feet in
  • Loved playing with the boys & crashing through the blocks
  • Went for a good long walk with Mommy on Sunday morning
  • Says: Apple, Hot Dog
  • Starting to get into hitting people in the face even though he knows he's wrong, he'll pout at you - we may be starting 'time-outs' a lot sooner than expected
  • Wouldn't nap on Sunday
  • Grammie & Grampie came over to watch Alexander while Mommy did some cleaning & Daddy did some yardwork
  • Went out to brunch with Grammie & Grampie and flirted with all of his lady friends at the restaurant
  • Loved eating and tried new foods on Sunday: ham steak, potato-thingys, dried papaya (loved the papaya)
  • Finally took an afternoon nap on Sunday
  • Played bubbles, etc outside with Grammie & Grampie
  • LOVES to chase Daddy around the house and then subsequently have Daddy chase him around - that gives big ole belly laughs for that
  • Although he was exhausted he didn't want to lie down and go to sleep...he would only lie down if you stood next to him

Sunday...

On Sunday, Grammie & Grampie came over to hang out with Alexander for a bit so Mommy could get some stuff done around the house. They went out to brunch and then after he took his 2 hour nap, they went outside to play.

Update: Sickeroo...

Wanted to post an update on the little sickeroo...last night showed all the signs of a potentially long evening. I'm happy to report that Alexander only had the one moment of crying/screaming before 8:30pm. The rest of the night, he slept right on through & in his crib!

He also slept until 6am! (wooo hooo)

He was in a good mood this morning, it wasn't until I tried to get him out the door and into the car that he wanted no part of it. He cried, kicked & screamed. I felt so bad for the poor guy. He spent half of the car ride to school upset and the other half trying to fall asleep.

Thankfully once at school, he was fine. He sat there and ate his pancakes and was quite happy. And then once Ginny walked in - I was old news! So it's good that he's on the mend...

Sickeroo...

Last night was a pretty rough night. Alexander appears to be teething full-throttle even though I can't feel anything even close to breaking through. It also doesn't help that the poor kid has a cold. He's congested, runny nose and just overall miserable.

School called me yesterday saying Alexander was miserable and just wouldn't stop crying. The little guy just wasn't himself, so I went to pick him up early. He was miserable the entire car ride home but seemed to be okay once we got home and into our routine. We had dinner, took a bath, and even read some books before bed. He was asleep by 7:05pm!

But then it reared it's ugly head again... He woke up screaming @ 8:30pm, then again at 10:30pm. The only thing that would calm him down and back to sleep was by sitting indian-style on the floor rocking him. You couldn't sit in the chair and even walking didn't work. He fell back asleep in his crib both times but eventually kept waking up. Then he was just waking every hour. At one point (don't even know the time), Dan brought him into bed with us but that didn't help because Alexander was miserable. He kept moving, crying, and not able to fall asleep which also meant neither did we.

Around 2:30am we tried to give him Motrin (he loves taking medicine) and he wanted no part of it - that's when I know he's miserable. He kept gagging because he was crying so hard...I was waiting to be thrown up on. Isn't it evitable as a Mom?? He slept some but I don't know just how much (I know I didn't sleep)...he went to school today and they said he was better than yesterday but still not 100%.

He was fine for Daddy at home (Mommy was stuck in traffic) and went down for bed without a hitch however as I started to type this he woke up screaming again so fingers crossed that we don't have the same night as last night!!

Crime Biting Part II...

We attended our town's National Night Out for Safety again this year. Odd as it sounds, there seems to have been less for Alexander to do this year even though he's older. Plus, I didn't see McGruff the Crime Dog anywhere. Shame, really. This is us from the Night Out last year.
There was a female clown making balloon animals - man, they really are scary!!

Alexander did get to see a real police dog, named Hope, who he really enjoyed. He also got to check out a firetruck up close.

But probably his favorite part was eating a hot dog by himself, bun & all. He wasn't giving that up for no one.

Week Glance...

Week Glance (Monday, July 28th - Sunday, August 3rd, 2008)

  • 4th Tooth has broken through ~ Top front right tooth!!
  • His kisses are my favorite
  • He's done really well with words this week: up, apple, all done, gone, mama, dog, woof
  • Alexander brought home lots of "art" projects from school which also meant he brought home painted shirts - thankfully I was able to remove the paint this time around
  • He had a very good week of school - played outside at the playground, went on the swings, and played in the gym
  • He even showed school how he can drink from a big boy cup but ended up getting water all over himself
  • Started a new thing this week where he will fight to take baths however he loves baths & water so it's surprising when he does put up a fight
  • Has done a great job brushing his teeth this week
  • Went to Dr. M's office for the 2nd part of his MMR short on Wednesday - he *hated* every second of it once he saw Dr. M - I know the 3rd will be just as bad. Hopefully he won't be afraid of the building in September for his 18th month appt (he doesn't get any shots then so that's good)
  • May have a growth spurt this week as he ate two whole things of squash by himself for dinner on Wednesday and then 1 & 1/2 hot dogs on Thursday & Saturday nights
  • Is getting really good about feeding himself with a fork & spoon
  • Daddy had Alexander duty Friday night as Mommy went to cousin Sean's wedding
  • This was the first night in a very long time that Daddy had bedtime duty and he did very well
  • Had a lowkey weekend at home
  • Went for his walk/playground jaunt with Daddy on Saturday and did the same thing with Mommy on Sunday (minus the Dunkin' Donuts stop)
  • Went out to dinner on Saturday night with Mommy & Daddy to Post Office Pub - he didn't flirt nearly as much as he usually does, but he was very well behaved
  • He tried broccoli, cauliflower, sour pickles & mozzarella at dinner and only spit out a bit of the cauliflower
  • Loves to eat limes
  • Played outside on Sunday
  • Daddy brought him to Uncle Steven & Carolyn's house on Sunday afternoon - they played in the pool for a bit
  • Ate a chocolate chip cookie after dinner on Sunday and REALLY liked it

TEEF...

Here's the only shot I could get which showcases all 4 of his teeth in their current stage...

Please pardon the chocolate chip cookie mess around them...
