Weekly Glance...
Weekly Glance (Monday, May 23rd - Sunday, May 29th, 2011)
- Had a pretty good week at school - listening is much better as is his words
- He's been good at telling friends 'no thank you' and walking away. Miss Cassie said that he even told Connor 'no thank you, I'm ignoring you now" after Connor kept bothering him
- However Monday he had a pretty grumpy day and wanted to be left alone
- Went to the bookstore with Mommy after school - picked out two superhero books
- Bedtime has also been improving - less fighting. Asleep around 9-9:15pm most nights
- Napped every day (one day he even had an extra long nap)
- Helped Daddy mow the law both Wednesday & Friday night
- Went to dinner with Mommy Thursday night for our date night
- Friday morning, he was so proud of himself as he got dressed and got his breakfast all by himself
- Saturday morning was a nice morning - did breakfast, got ready for gymnastics and then said goodbye to Daddy who would be in NJ for the weekend for cousin 's wedding
- We went to gymnastics and he had fun - although there was a moment of tears when the girls wouldn't get off the bar to give the boys a turn and then another boy cut in front of Alexander so he got sad. The teacher asked what happened and both boys blamed each other - so Alexander cried but then was able to regroup and get a turn (which then lead to the other boy crying)...but Mommy was good and let the kids figure it out for themselves
- After gymnastics, Miss Cassie came over to babysit for a few hours - they had a blast playing
- He was so tired Saturday night that he was asleep before 8:30
- Sunday was a great Alexander & Mommy day - we got up, had some breakfast, played some trains and then headed out for a day in the city
- We had a great day - we walked around the harbor, got some ice cream at Faneuil Hall, rode the T, played at the playground in the Boston Common, and finished out the day back at the waterfront - all in all a great day!

Shipping Off to Boston...
Today, Mommy & Alexander spent the day in Boston! It was such a perfect day - the weather was great and Alexander was very well behaved! We first walked around the waterfront where Alexander checked out some boats, both big & small. After some lunch, we walked over to Fanueil Hall where we walked around a bit before we got some ice cream. Alexander almost dropped his ice cream but between his shirt and a nice woman to help us out as she came over to rescue the falling ice cream he was still able to eat his chocolate ice cream.
We then took the T over to the Boston Common where we got (yet another) ice cream and then played on the playground. After the playground, we walked around the Boston Common for a bit - took some photos and then took the T back to Govt Center. We were headed back towards the car but Alexander saw a street performer so he wanted to take a peek. He stood on a mini wall, watching him, but didn't pay attention that as he was taking steps to the side he would run out of room. And then BAM - he fell off the wall and hit his leg on the wall and a planter. I thought for sure he banged his penis again as that's what he immediately began to grab as he screamed. Quickly, I picked him up and brought him off to the side to get him to calm down and make sure he was okay. As it turns out, he mainly fell down on the upper inside of his thigh and everything is a-ok.
As we were heading back to the car (with some residual tears), we stopped at the hot dog stand at the Aquarium to get a hot dog (that Mr. sad face didn't end up eating)...so we headed back to see the boats and make our way home. Overall it was a fantastic day for the two of us!
Obsessed...
Currently, Alexander is obsessed with winning. He needs to win everything. He needs to come in first and is completely preoccupied about what "place" people come in - this includes walking in the house, eating dinner, racing upstairs.
He even told me yesterday that he beat me with taking a sip of water.
We've had to tell him that not everything is a race (for example - eating dinner) and that he can't come in first place every time. He disagrees with us. Let's hope this phase doesn't last too long.

Babysitter....
Miss Cassie came over to babysit Alexander this afternoon. It was very random and fairly last minute because earlier in the week, Alexander kept asking if Cassie could come over for a playdate and I kept telling him the proverbial "we'll see". Well Wednesday morning he just kept asking and asking and again during bedtime Wednesday night. I told him that if he was good that I would ask her if she was available on Saturday afternoon.
I picked him up Thursday afternoon and poor Miss Cassie was so confused because all day Alexander kept telling her that she was babysitting for him yet I hadn't even asked her yet. Thankfully, Miss Cassie was available Saturday afternoon even though it was last minute...so we made plans and I told her I would confirm details with her on Friday.
Saturday afternoon, Alexander could barely contain himself and kept asking when Cassie would get there. Once she got there, he was so excited! He showed her the play room and then his room and asked her what she wanted to see first and before she could answer he just kept taking stuff out to show her.
Mommy was able to go get an oil change and have my AC looked at (which they said was demonic). They played for the whole afternoon - trains, cars, baseball, soccer, running and then played inside the Thomas tent....when I got home Cassie said that he kept her busy and moving the entire time but that he was great and that they both had fun.
Win win for everyone!

Weekly Glance (Monday, May 16th - Sunday, May 22nd, 2011)

- There was some incidents of pushing other friends but none of them resulted in timeouts

- He did a great job sleeping this week - he slept in his bed all week the entire night (every night)
- He also had good bedtime routine this week with going to bed with minimal fighting

Quotes of the Week...
Some cute quotes of the week:
- "Miss Cassie & I are going to get married and go to Aruba. We're going to have pretzel, chips & salsa because Miss Cassie like chips & salsa." (fyi, Alexander can show you where Aruba is on the globe)
- "Mommy, did you know that I love you more than I love monkey? because that's a lot"
- While at Grace's birthday party, the hostess tiptoed out of the circle to get a prop for the book:
Aidan: Okay, she's gone. We should all close our eyes and pretend we don't see her when she gets back
Alexander: Ooooooohhhh (in a very loud voice)
Rest of the circle erupts in giggles
Weekend Activities...
We definitely had a mixed weekend with amount of plans. Saturday was incredibly busy and non-stop with things to do where as Sunday was the exact opposite.
Saturday
Saturday morning, Alexander and I had a quiet morning with some breakfast, trains, and relaxing before it was time to go to gymnastics.
We headed to gymnastics and Alexander was excited to see if Mr. Anthony was going to be there. Mr. Anthony reminds me of Uncle Paul as he's super nice and funny. He & Alexander have this little joke where they point to each other and say "I know youuuu". It's cute. Alexander did great this week in gymnastics - listened to his teachers, did well with his tumbles, the bar and again on the balance beam.
After gymnastics, we headed home for lunch and to get ready for Grace's birthday party. However since we had some time before we needed to leave, Alexander was able to go hang out with Daddy outside and then they even headed over to the lake to do a little fishing. Alexander was very excited that they caught 5 sunny fish. And according to Alexander they "almost caught 20 sunnies fish but only 5 we gots"
Alexander and Mommy then headed to Grace's birthday party (Daddy was babysitting cousin Michael) which was a Pajama themed party. It was cute, they decorated chef hats, had story time and then did some baking! During baking, it turned out to be the boy table and the girl table. The boys all did well with each other helping out and they all got to take turns putting ingredients into the bowl. Alexander got to crack the eggs and put them into the bowl and he did a great job and was so proud of himself 'Hey Mom, I gots no shells". After the magic oven "cooked" their donuts, they were able to frost & decorate them (the hostess already had donuts pre-made). After decorating, it was cake time! They all sang happy birthday and had some yummy cake and then it was time to head home as the boys were starting to want to run around!
On the way home, Mommy & Alexander decided to make pizza for dinner and stopped to get all the ingredients. Might as well have a day full of cooking...so we got our ingredients and went home and made some yummy pizza. After dinner, we played trains, read books and then it was a pretty early night for both of us.
Sunday
Sunday was a nice low-key day for everyone. Alexander woke up around 6:15am and it was a quiet morning until he & Daddy headed downstairs. They had breakfast and played a few games (Chutes & Ladders/Candy Land) and then they headed outside to do some yardwork. Alexander started to help Daddy but then decided he wanted to play with his bouncey ball for a bit. The boys went to Home Depot for a bit and came back and then they played baseball where Alexander had some great hits (unfortunately one of them hit Daddy on the cheek). Mommy was inside cleaning and chilling out so then Alexander came in for a break so he & I did a bit of cuddling before he wanted to go back outside. This time he wanted me to come play ball & soccer with him so we ran around a bit before dinner time.
We had yummy dinner and then we played with trains for a bit - we tried to do a new track but kept getting stuck. Then after tubby time, we read some books and Alexander was asleep pretty quickly!
Overall a good weekend!
Update...
Here's a little update on our little tyke as we're pretty much into the thick of things with a 4 year old who has a busy schedule!
He's already had 4 birthday parties in the past 2 months with two more in the next month! Plus, there is gymnastics, requested playdates and then there will be swim class before we know it!
His sleeping and bedtime has definitely gotten better, despite the fact that he still naps every day at school. We've stopped pushing the "lights out" each night and we wait for him to tell us when he's ready for lights out which was reduced the fighting/arguing. We still have some arguing over brushing teeth but we have to have patience that it's just because that's when he starts to hit his wall for the day. The past week, despite a few potty incidents, he had a great bedtime & sleeping routine. He slept in his bed all night each day and slept to around 6am every day. That's a big thing!
We're also having less fighting in the morning when we're trying to leave the house. I'm trying to turn everything into a game to keep him engaged in wanting to do things. And while the fighting is getting better, the listening is not. We have to ask him SEVERAL times to do anything. And while I know he hears what we ask, he simply doesn't want to and we have to keep asking. Most times when he starts to stretch or say that he has to tell you something, you know he is stalling because he's admitted a few times he has nothing to tell. The latest practice is to ask him to do something and we will ask him two more times and if we have to ask him one more time then we'll tell him we'll start to count to three and if we have to count then he'll get a timeout for not listening.
Alexander has also been behaving better at school however some pushing among the boys. Also, apparently Alexander, Connor and few other boys may also pick on another friend by having him chase them and then they run from him and not let him play with him. They also push another little friend because he's smaller. We've had to have serious conversations with him to let him know that it is never okay to pick on another person at school even if you don't like them. If you don't like them, you stay away from them. If they pick on you then he should tell them 'no thank you' and tell a teacher and that he should never let anyone pick on him. Miss Cassie has started to break the class up into Groups (mainly to break up the boys) and it is working well for Alexander. So hopefully this pushing is just a phase that he'll grow out of soon....
Overall, Alexander is your typical happy go lucky little 4 year old who just loves to play and gets excited over the cutest little things.

Picture Day...
Today is Picture Day at school!
He gets his individual and class photo. He has been waiting for Funny Mark (the photographer) to come back for picture day for months!
