Week Recap...

Week Recap (Monday, March 24th - Sunday, March 30th)

  • Great week of sleeping - slept til 6am almost every morning
  • Alexander had a great week at school - he was practicing standing on his own & walking holding onto one hand
  • Class picture day at school on Wednesday - his two teachers said he was the best one getting his picture taken (gee, I wonder why)
  • He's too trusting and will stand on his own for a second or two and then just fall back expecting you to catch him
  • Had turkey, ham & cheese for lunch - wasn't all that fond of the ham
  • Went to the playground across the street twice this week with Daddy. Went on the slide & swings and even threw pebbles. Thankfully Daddy told him no.
  • Celebrated Daddy's birthday on Thursday - with a "ice cream" cake & presents
  • Ate some ice cream and fed himself
  • Went out to dinner Friday night to celebrate Daddy's birthday at the Post Office Pub
  • Grammie, Grampie & Alyson came with us to dinner

  • Went to Uncle Steve & Aunt Carolyn's for cousin Chris' 12th birthday
  • Saw Grandpa & Grandma from NJ on Saturday & Sunday

Twelve Month Check-Up...

It's official - Alexander is still a peanut. He was little when he was born and he's still little now. And we love him just the way he is!

We had our official 12 month check-up today with Dr. M and his wife. Alexander did exceptionally well, even though the appointment was during nap time. In our doctor group, there were only 3 out of the 4 babies so it was a relatively quick appointment. We discussed eating, sleeping & development. All 3 of the babies are right around each other in terms of crawling, standing, starting to take steps, sleeping & what they're eating. Alexander is still the only one without teeth, but hey no biting!

His official details are Weight: 19 lbs 13 oz; Length: 28.5"; Head: 44.5 cm. He only grew 8 ounces since his last doctor visit on February 20th. The other two babies were 28lbs & 24 lbs respectively.

Alexander had two shots today (chicken pox & pneumoccocal) and also had blood drawn to test for lead & anemia. His blood level (hgb) is 13.6 which is just fine. We'll get a call from Dr. M if the lead results come back abnormal, but no one is really worried as all of the paint in our house is within the last 3/4 years so it doesn't contain lead. Alexander was okay with the blood being drawn, he just didn't enjoy being constricted. He cried really hard with the shots though. Thankfully, those ended quickly.

Overall, a successful doctor visit with Dr. M. We'll see them for the 15 Month Check-up at the end of June.

Birthday Cake...

I’m such a premiere baker that even Alexander is impressed…

Actual story: As some of you know, we do ice cream cakes for birthdays in our house and since we have so much ice cream still in our freezer from Alexander’s birthday, Dan asked me to just use what we had - so I did - that’s right, those are hoodsie cups made into a cake!!

Daddy's Birthday...

We celebrated Daddy's birthday - a very quiet evening at home. It's rather nice having Alexander & Daddy's birthdays so close together, it's a whole week of celebrating! We gave Daddy his Hoodsie ice cream cake. Alexander had some ice cream of which he did well feeding himself.
Then it was time to open presents. Alexander helped since he really didn't get to open his own. Daddy got lots of fun goodies, but Alexander was more interested in taking the tissue paper out of the gift bag.
Another successful birthday celebration...

Birthday Recap...

Alexander had a wonderful first birthday! The weather cooperated, family & friends came to celebrate, Alexander took two naps & was in a spectacular mood all day! We couldn't have asked for anything more.

Because of the timing of the day, we were trying to get Alexander on a slightly earlier schedule (breakfast, bath, naps, etc). He didn't necessarily want to go down for the first nap that early, but eventually he did go down and slept for an hour & a half! Dan's parents came up from NJ the night before so they could come over earlier in the day because they had to get back to NJ for Easter weekend mass. We're glad they were able to come up and celebrate some time with us even though it was a extremely busy weekend for them.
Alexander got to spend some time with Grandma & Grandpa from NJ before they headed back home. He showed them how he bounced in the moonwalk with Daddy (and before the big kids got in). He also opened his Easter basket & birthday present from them. He showed them how he pushes his truck around the house & how he goes upstairs by himself.
Then it was time for his 2nd nap before the party began - and surprisingly he went down this time without a fight. Guests started to arrive and someone a someone celebrating his first birthday slept thru it. We had 50 people and while I was worried things would be really tight & confined, however everything worked out really well. Some peopel hung out in the kitchen, dining room, living room & outside. It was perfect. Finally he woke up & it was time for the party to get underway!
We had the idea to rent a moonwalk (Elmo) to help entertain the other 16 kids. We don't have a room in our house where kids could just hang out, play games or watch tv. So that mean they would be playing outside (thank god for good weather). The moonwalk was a huge hit and went over very well! We also had goodie bags & a pinata which also helped to entertain them. Brilliant! Aunt Carolyn brought him back into the moonwalk before cake & ice cream and he loved it! Then it was time to sing Happy Birthday, cut the cake and see just how much of a mess Alexander would make with his first piece of cake. For the record, the boy is his mother's child. He didn't like the cake and didn't like the mess on his hands, he much rather have the chocolate chip cookie! After cake, a lot of the guests headed out as it was getting late. So Alexander opened presents (with the help of Skylar, Sierra, and our neighbor's two kids) with a smaller crowd. He got lots of great presents which we managed not to take pictures of him opening gifts. Don't know how we missed that one. He got lots of books which is great, I'm a huge fan of books!
After everyone left, it was time to get ready for bed. We took a couple pictures of the three of us and then it was off to bed. The first birthday was a huge success! Our little baby is now a toddler...
