Shower Time...

Alexander's latest revelation is how fun showers can be!

Monday night, he was outside playing with Daddy & ended up super sweaty and dirty. We didn't want to do a full-fledge bath so we asked if he wanted to take a shower! He seemed intrigued and excited and even more so when Daddy was going to go in with him.

Daddy got his bathing suit on so he could be in there to hold Alexander and show him what to do. Alexander LOVED it. He loved using soap and then rinsing himself off. He also got a kick out of scrubbing the soap in his hair and then stepping back into the water to rinse the soap out of his hair. He couldn't get enough! So then on Tuesday, he asked if he could take another shower "to get clean, use soap, and rinse". This time Mommy helped out, with her bathing suit & all, and we did another shower! He loved it and had no problems with the water on his head or on his face!

We'll see if he wants to do baths or showers now!

EDITED: A photo has been added & we have mainly taken showers all week...he LOVES them!

Weekly Glance...

Weekly Glance (Monday, June 21st - Sunday, June 27th, 2010)

  • Had a very good week at school: minimal time-outs, good listening ears, and really becoming quite polite & conscientious of his friends (according to Ms Lindsey)
  • Officially in potty training mode!
  • Pretty low-key week despite potty training & hanging out with Mommy for the weekend
  • Bedtime is still a "work in progress"...we need to be consistent and stand our ground however the extra gate in front of his door has been working so that he's contained a bit more
  • Sleeping in bed every night this weekend except one morning he woke up at 4am & was up for the day!
  • Signed up for swim sessions for the summer!
  • Mommy & Alexander bonding weekend - Daddy went to visit friends in NJ (see separate post for weekend activities like train ride, swan boats, playground, Christopher's birthday)
  • Mommy's helper as we got groceries and had several people comment on what a good helper he was & how polite he was
  • Potty training is going well with minor accidents here & there - we've been keeping him in his underwear for the car ride home and he's done well!
  • Some of his quotes/phrases crack me up as they are quite random
  • Was very excited when Daddy got home on Sunday
  • Hung out/helped Daddy & Neighbor Jon cut down trees
  • Family dinner on Sunday

Potty Update...

We've been on the "official" Potty training bandwagon for the past week. Everything before that has been getting him used to underwear and working on him to let us know when he has to use the bathroom.

At school, he's been wearing underwear rather than pull-ups and 3 of the 5 days, he came home in the same outfit he wore to school!

He does well telling us he needs to pee during bedtime (which I call the stalling tactic), also has been doing very well of staying fairly dry throughout the night and then letting us know first thing in the morning! And this is why we are limiting the beverages right before bedtime...we don't need to be woken at 4am with a "Mommy, I gotta pee!"

This weekend was 50/50....Saturday he was great in letting me know when he had to go and giving me plenty of notice to get him to a bathroom. We had ZERO accidents on Saturday! However, Sunday was a different story...although he still did great in telling me when he had to go pee and making sure he got into the bathroom, there were 4 accidents this weekend. One was questionable because he was all wet from playing outside and we dashed in because it started raining and Mommy was too slow getting to the door (I also didn't know he had to pee). However two incidents could have been avoided so we continue to march on in the battle of potty training...

But man, this potty training sure does rack of the small loads of laundry! Here's to a successful week of potty training both at home & at school!

Weekend Activities...

This weekend, while Daddy was visiting friends in NJ, Mommy & Alexander had a bonding weekend. We bonded over potty breaks, singing "Happy Birthday"to Christopher, building blocks, pool time, and some really cool firsts: First ride on the red line, first visit to the Swan Boats & 'Make Way for Ducklings' statues.

We also hung out at the playground for a bit, after a trip on the merry-go-round!

Quote of the Week...

Here are some quotes from this week:

  • "Mommy, I didn't fight with you this morning. Right?" - said Monday morning on the way to school after a very cooperative morning getting ready
  • "Mommy, you're so proud of me for going pee in the potty" - which I was.
  • "Thank you, Mommy, for cleaning me" - after bathtime
  • "WOW, that was AWESOME" - and I have no idea what he was referring to
  • "I gotta pee!" - reminds me of Forrest Gump

Swimming Lessons: Year 2...

Today, Alexander & I went to sign up for swim class. He was quite excited to be back at the pool again, which is a far cry from his very first trip there last year. He kept asking if he could go for swimming class now so I had to explain that it was time for the older kids. So we sat and watched the older kids swim up & down the lanes for a while.

The other two classes I was hoping to get him into was already full, so we'll be attending the same "Mommy & Me" swim session as last year. This year he seems quite ready & excited! Maybe I'll even get him to swim for a few seconds on his own. We start in July so I'm sure the next few weeks will contain lots of questions as to when we go back to the pool.
