Weekly Glance...

Weekly Glance (Monday, January 24th - Sunday, January 30th, 2011)

  • Had an okay week at school - started out fine, but by the end of the week he was getting time outs again (running, talking back)
  • Sleeping was okay this week - we've found that if he wakes up on his own in the morning, then he's a lot more cooperative versus us waking him up (to get ready for school) which then he's cranky
  • Most nights he didn't fight for bedtime and was asleep around 9:30p. He also stayed in his bed for the entire night with the exception of the weekend
  • Had YET another snow day on Thursday, this time Daddy stayed home
  • Saturday morning was our first gymnastics class
  • He loved the class and did a great job following his teacher's instructions - he loved tumbling, & going on the rings
  • After gymnastics/lunch, we headed down to Mommy's friend Kelley's house for a gathering - Alexander loved playing with Elizabeth
  • The kids played dress up (Alexander got to be Ariel), theatre (they put on a play), their own version of Rock Band where Alexander rocked the drums
  • Sunday was a VERY low-key day at home - Alexander stayed in jammies all day
  • Worked on his Star of the Week project for class
  • We're moving out of the fighting at bedtime/screaming phase but I think we're entering the fresh/back talking phase - I am NOT a fan.

Star of the Week...

Alexander is Star of the Week!

Earlier this week, we received a bag on Alexander's hook at school. It was labeled "Star of the Week". Inside was information & instructions on what to do, what to include, etc. It explained that each child would be Star of the Week and they would rotate throughout the class. We weren't given a date as to what week would be Alexander's but since the bag was on his hook, we decided to work on the project all together!

Inside the bag you had to list all the reasons why your child is special. We had four pages! There was also a Star of the Week box where the child could pick 3/4 items and put it in the box. They would use the items to guess more about the child. Alexander picked out a train, a Lightening McQueen car, a mini soccer ball, and his train whistle. You could also include a favorite book they would read during the week, and some pictures of your child.

We did the list of special reasons, we filled the box, we picked out a book (Alexander picked "Hello Wally"), we picked out some pictures and also Alexander wanted to include some paintings. Last time there was a "homework" school project, I let Alexander scribble and I just glued our faces on some bodies...but this time I I decided to go a little fancy. I wanted to tell a story and show more of Alexander's personality & what he likes. So this time I decided to make some scrapbook pages out of them! I really like how they came out and it went very cute! We even have to "My Fav" pages of stickers of things he enjoys! Not sure when he is Star of the Week but when he is - he's ready to go!

My own princess...

My very own Disney Princess....We were over my friend Kelley's house and her daughter has lots of great toys! She also has Ariel's costume and considering Alexander loves Ariel he couldn't get enough of being Ariel! He makes such a cute merman (as Elizabeth was calling him)! He was SO excited to wear the costume and pretend to be Ariel! I'm surprised he let me get him out of it...

Future Gymnast...

This morning was Alexander's first gymnastics class! He was quite excited to learn "new rolling things". This class was all about learning safety - how to land & roll properly.

They started with learning how to roll backwards and then balls & showing them how to balance & handle them. Then they got to run a bit (so exciting for Alexander), and then it was time to break into little groups to go to the different stations.
First up was the rings where they would swing and then jump off them. Then they would climb on balance beams and do some tumbling. Then it was onto jumping off a mat to learn how to land, and then the final station was the bars. They each took turns on the bars and until it was their turn, they went on a balance beam, and then tumbled down off a high mat. One time, Alexander was going so fast to beat a little girl on the beam so he could tumble before her (he realized that she was pretty slow), but he fell off the beam. So one teacher had to show him how to go all the way to the end of the beam, slowly.

Then at the end of class they got to play with the balls again with another quick round of backwards rolling! Overall a very successful first class. I love how structured it is and that there really is not a lot of opportunity for him to just run around crazy as he has something to focus on for the entire hour!

Snow Bunny....

Yup...it snowed again! Yup, it just seems to keep snowing! Yup, we've had a big storm every week since Christmas! Yup, our snow piles are taller than Alexander and Mommy - soon probably both of us combined! It snowed Thursday which meant yet another snow day for Alexander. Daddy took this one (as we are taking turns), and they went out to shovel & play in the snow. However it's getting so deep & crunchy that it's hard to walk let alone play.

But Daddy was able to dig a small igloo for Alexander! And yup, more snow is forecasted for this week!

Weekly Glance (Monday, January 17th - Sunday, January 23rd, 2011)

  • Had an okay week at school - some days were better than others
  • We're starting to get into the 'back-talk' phase which is what happened a few days at school
  • He also was quite inconsistent with his napping schedule at school...they tell us he can barely keep his eyes open and just falls asleep where as he has no issues like that at home during the weekends
  • Sleeping has been much better this week, less fighting at bedtime (not going to bed at 8pm, but no fighting) and even sleeping later (sometimes til 7a).
  • Early dismissal on Tuesday due to snow storm - hung out with Daddy that afternoon at home
  • Went grocery shopping with Mommy Thursday night - he's such a great helper
  • Had a Snow Day on Friday due to YET another storm - stayed home with Mommy
  • Helped Mommy shovel & we played in the snow (made a snow 'mound' & snow angels)
  • Went to the Aquarium & dinner with Mommy & Daddy on Saturday - loved the sharks the most, and was well-behaved (no running)
  • Slept til 7:30am on Sunday (Daddy's morning)
  • Played football & cars with Daddy in the morning
  • Mimi came over for the afternoon to hang out
  • Mimi & Alexander played cars, football, made cookies, did puzzles, watched football & just played random stuff
  • Low-key Sunday evening is just the perfect way to finish up a low-key weekend

Trip to the Aquarium...

This afternoon, we ventured out to the Aquarium! It was a nice outing despite the frigid temperatures by the water! Alexander was incredibly excited to see the sharks & the penquins, however the sharks were the exciting part of the adventure! He got to check out the crabs & the starfish too....he didn't touch any craps but was great with the starfish & even kept them underwater this time!He loves to check out the tank & see all of the fish swimming around. A couple times the shark swam right by us and we were able to see that he had a boo-boo. He wasn't as impressed with Myrtle the turtle even though we got to see her once at the top of the tank.

Overall a good time at the aquarium and the wee lad was well-behaved! After the Aquarium, we went out to dinner and then headed home...

Snow Day...

We had yet another snow day on Friday....and supposedly we have yet another snow storm brewing for next week. According to Daddy, we have no idea where we are going to put any more snow! However, Mommy & Alexander had a great time with the snow! We shoveled the driveway and then we went in the backyard to build a snowman. The snow was too light so we weren't able to make a solid snowman. We made snow angels instead!
