Weekly Glance...

Weekly Glance (Monday, July 25th - Sunday, July 31st, 2011)

  • Had a pretty good week at school - did have a couple of timeouts throughout the week but I think they were more on the smaller scale
  • Alexander & Mommy had a lot of date nights this week:
  • we went to get his haircut on Monday,
  • went to dinner on Thursday,
  • went to Fenway Park on Friday,
  • after swim class we went to see Josh Groban on Saturday then went out to dinner and ice cream
  • Participated in the Trike-a-thon at school, without a bike on Wednesday
  • Helped Daddy make dinner on Wednesday
  • Played a bit of Wii this week to try to get more practice with driving
  • Sleeping was on & off - some nights he slept all the way thru even waking up closer to 6:30, other times he came in to cuddle with Mommy
  • Woke up super early on Wednesday morning and ended up having a good day at school despite early wake up time
  • Did sleep to 6:15am on Saturday and 7am on Sunday - probably best combined weekend wake up times
  • Went to Cape Cod for mini-vacation Part II with Daddy Sunday morning
  • According to Daddy, he had a great day on Sunday playing with the cousins and swimming at the beach

Vacation - Part Two...

Today, Alexander & Daddy left for a mini-vacation - this will be a Cape Cod Part Two for Alexander. They are staying Sunday through Tuesday as then Daddy comes back to go on a fishing trip with friends.

They are staying at a house that Grandma & Pop-pop rented for the week. The cousins will be there so Alexander will have a blast playing with everyone! I'm sure there will be sun, swimming & beach time for all!

I'll try not to miss him even though I know he's having a blast.

Josh sighting...

Today, Alexander & I went for a Josh Groban sighting. He was being inducted into the Mohegan Sun Hall of Fame so I thought it would be potentially interesting/fun to bring Alexander as he knows exactly when Josh is playing on my radio.

Interesting, yes. Alexander fell asleep during the car ride so he woke up and was a bit groggy when we got there which kept him from wanting to stay. Thankfully for Alexander's sake, once Josh came out, he wasn't out there long. But at least we did get a Josh sighting....but that was about it. In hindsight, I don't necessarily know if I would have gone and I definitely wouldn't have brought Alexander but....we did get this:The ironic part is that anytime I've gone to Mohegan Sun/Foxwoods I never understood why people bring kids there. I still don't get it even though I did it yesterday. People try to say that there are shops/restaurants/arenas, etc to try to make it more family friendly but in the end it's still a smoky casino. I struggled with bringing him but thankfully we were at the arena and only briefly walked by a casino section. Regardless of the non-smoking section, it still smelled pretty bad so I made sure that we both got cleaned up once at home. And Alexander is just like me because he kept calling it the "bad smelly place".

My Little Fish...

Here's my little fish - he has no fear and is already pushing himself backwards off the wall

Swimming Lessons...

Alexander is taking to swimming classes the way fish take to water. He's been fantastic - swimming the entire length of the pool, jumping in without fear, learning to blow bubbles, keeping his mouth shut, & pushing off from the wall.

This week he learned to float on his back and he did so well that he wanted to show the instructor all by himself! She was very impressed, as was Mommy! Pretty soon he'll be swimming without any type of floatation device.

First Trip to Fenway

Tonight, Alexander had his first trip to the beloved ballpark - Fenway Park! Mommy & Alexander went to the Cape Cod All-Star game which was held at Fenway Park. It was a perfect combination of the Cape Cod league and Fenway Park/Red Sox as this way he was able to route for the Chatham As while at Fenway. He was so excited to go and once we got there, walked up to the Green Monster he was beaming! It was a moment that I will always cherish when he grabbed my hand and said "Mommy are we really at Fenway Park, it's so big. I love you for bringing me".

Once inside, we ate Fenway Franks, peanuts, took in the home run derby (which a player from Chatham As won) and watched the game. We walked around a bit to find Wally and I wanted him to be able to see more of Fenway and I had to point out the Green Monster from inside the park. He was so into the game as he refused to leave and kept saying he was staying til the end. I didn't necessarily know whether or not he would want to stay the whole time but he did. He sang 'Take Me Out to the ballgame" and 'Sweet Caroline'. It was such a great night!

Trike-a-thon...

This year, Alexander's school was holding a trike-a-thon for St. Jude's Research. We asked Alexander if he wanted to participate and he said he only felt like walking. We asked if he wanted to bring his bike, scooter, helmet or any combination of them and he wasn't really into it.

He said he would much rather walk because he could be much faster than his friends. I wonder if it's because he's not that comfortable peddling....looks like we might want to try the bike riding again

Weekly Glance...

Weekly Glance (Monday, July 18th - Sunday, July 24th, 2011)

  • Back to school after vacation - week was okay. Started out a bit rough as he was trying to get back into routine, but by the end of the week was much better
  • Sleeping was also thrown off this week which I think was due to the weather. We have an A/C unit in his room to help cool things off. However, every night we have it on, he does manages to wake up and come in to sleep with Mommy anywhere from 1:30am to 3am. We then turned it off after cooling the room in the hopes that it would allow him to sleep and it worked only one night this week
  • Had a few timeouts this week (pinching a friend, leaving the classroom to go pee but not telling anyone)
  • Tuesday night, Mommy & Alexander had a quiet night and made dinner, took a tubby & relaxed
  • Thursday night, Went to Target with Mommy for date night
  • Friday night during dinner, he was overtired which resulted in cranky & not listening
  • Saturday morning with Mommy - cuddled during thunderstorm & played Wii
  • Went to swim class where he did very well - swam the length of the pool twice (did have a bubble on but did very well using his arms & legs)
  • After swim class, came home for lunch & played a bit outside with Daddy
  • We then headed into Boston for the afternoon (see other post)
  • Saturday night was easy night for bedtime as he was pooped from the day
  • Slept thru the night in his room and slept until 6:40am
  • Hung out with Daddy Sunday morning
  • Played baseball & golf outside with Daddy
  • Went to the beach with Daddy, Matt, Laura & Michael
  • Daddy said Alexander did a great job swimming (with & without his vest) - they jumped off the docks
  • Quiet night on Sunday - helped Mommy make dinner, and then clean up. Tubby & cuddle time before bedtime

Day in Boston...

Today we went into Boston for the afternoon - and had a jammed-packed afternoon!

We walked along the waterfront, headed to the Aquarium (where it pays to be a member because we could avoid the very long, very hot line out front) and enjoyed seeing the sea-life. Alexander was quite excited that the sharks were back from "vacation" and there were now 3 to enjoy!

After a snack at the Aquarium, we headed out to walk around. We walked over to Fanueil Hall where Alexander wanted to get some ice cream. Before we got there, we stopped at a water fountain where kids & adults were cooling themselves off from the heat! From there we walked towards Govt Center & stopped to watch a street group perform. At the end, they asked for volunteers and asked "you, cool dude" pointing towards Alexander to join them but he became incredibly shy and turned them down. (He didn't like the invite at all as he actually started to tear up that he would have to go in the middle) After the performance, we went up the Govt Center steps as Alexander knew where the train station was and that he wanted to take a train ride. (Can I just say how much I love that Alexander loves this city and loves the subway?!)

We took a train ride back over to the Aquarium and walked around the waterfront a bit more. And before we headed home, Alexander rode the Merry Go Round! All in all a very nice afternoon in the city!

Update...

Just an update regarding potty training - I think we are fully complete, including night time! Not to jinx myself....

Alexander hasn't had nighttime pullups in over a month and hasn't had an accident in over a week.

Finger crossed!

  • Night time potty training is going well
  • Had moments where he needed an attitude adjustment which was because he was so tired from busy days

  • He had another busy weekend
  • Saturday morning, Daddy & Alexander took a walk over to Dunkin Donuts. Then, Alexander & Mommy went to Christina's pool party with his school friends, then home in the afternoon where the two of us played baseball before he started to crash. Pool Party

Today Alexander was invited to a pool party over his friend Christina's house! He was quite excited to see his friends after being out from school for the week. I was expecting him to be swimming in the pool the entire time but he found a water shooter and was connected to that for the afternoon. He had a blast hanging out with Christina & Sean for most of the day and at one point, the water fight became kids vs. adults. And the kids did fairly well for themselves!

Vacation Photos & Recap...

Vacation Photo Recap (Monday, July 11th - Friday, July 15th, 2011)

Monday - First day of vacation. Went to the beach with Chris, Claire & Sharon til mid afternoon, then the kids & I went to Main Street to walk around, went to Chatham Lighthouse, and then back to the house for burgers on the grill
Tuesday - Claire's Birthday! Kids were exhausted from the beach so we lounged around. Kids played outside for a bit but were getting antsy. Took Alexander for a walk to the playground, then we all got ready for dinner at Kreme & Kone. Gary & Papi joined us for dinner so Gary could be there for Claire's birthday. Then we headed to the Chatham Anglers' baseball game (they lost 4-3).Wednesday - Today it was just Alexander & Mommy. Alexander didn't want to go to the beach, so in the morning we walked to the playground and played there for a while. After the playground, we went to play mini golf. We started off well but it quickly went down hill so we just enjoyed the game and had fun with the timer on the camera. Alexander wasn't done with mini golf so we decided to try out another course. After the 2nd round of mini golf, we headed back to Chatham and decided to go look for shells at the 'cold' beach. We walked around, looked for shells & took more pictures. Then the bugs came out and the clouds rolled in (lots of rain that night!)Thursday - The weather was beautiful however the wind was incredibly chilly and ruled out any chance of a beach day. Instead, we headed back to the playground. We played catch, watched baseball camp, had lunch and went to the Chatham Train Museum. After that, we went to a new mini golf course where Alexander had a hole in one. On the way back, we stopped at Harwich Port to take photos and then headed to the Chatham Pier before home. We saw some photogenic seals and a gorgeous view (then the bugs came out!)
Friday - we went to the beach in the morning and then to mini golf & ice cream. Then we had dinner at the Kreme & Kone (again) before heading back home
