Weekly Glance (Monday, March 23rd - Sunday, March 29th, 2009)
Mommy & Daddy went to Boston for the night to celebrate Daddy's birthday and Alexander went to spend the night with Mimi & Papi.
Friday the 27th is Daddy's birthday. To celebrate, Mommy made a special ice cream cake. Basically, instead of buying an ice cream cake, we used cupcake holders and put different kinds of ice cream scoops in the different holders.
This morning I got a call from school telling me that Alexander fell and bumped his head on a shelf. They said he didn't cry and was in good spirits. They were putting ice on it but he appeared fine. There was no action we needed to take they just wanted to make us aware of the situation
They then called Dan because they didn't get in touch with me and since they spoke to him they said they were going to take a picture to show us. He asked if he was groggy or his eyes were glassy to check for a concussion and they said he was fine, in his normal mood, and his eyes were fine. They were going to keep ice on it and keep us posted as the day went on.
Here's the picture of the poor little guy...
Last night, Alexander showed us that he's learning something new. He is now able to dress himself. It might not always be perfect and he may need some help - but he knows the overall gist!
He took off his pants, and then wanted to put them back on. This took place SEVERAL times. The first time he put them on backwards and couldn't figure out why they didn't pull all the way up. But then he took them off and put them on the right way. Again, this happened several times.
Then he helped to take off his shirt and was able to do it without choking himself. However, rather than wanting to put on a shirt MULTIPLE times, he wanted nothing to do with a shirt. He was much more content to just have his pants on, but with no shirt.
When we tried to get his pajamas on, he wanted no part of it until we asked him to put his pj pants on himself. Then he was into it - but again, took them off and put them on. Multiple times.
Do you see a pattern?
Well, the shirt "thing" is apparently the latest phase. He doesn't want to wear a shirt. There's a lot of conversation around getting a shirt on. And I'm not going to lie - sometimes some tears are shed.
In fact, even this morning, he wanted nothing to do with a shirt. He was fine with the diaper, pants, sock, & shoes but once it came time to put on a shirt - he fought! So he sat downstairs, eating breakfast without a shirt.
Guess we'll see how long this phase lasts...but on the positive side, he's learning to dress himself!
